The Grinch who stole Christmas

Merry Christmas from the Shaved Ape!

Christians and their spokespeople, such as Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity, are “taking back Christmas”. As O’Reilly might say, Christmas became a generic “holiday” because of the progressive secularists (i.e. liberals). Christmas trees became holiday trees, and the Christmas season became the holiday season. Political correctness, the sad legacy of liberalism, has scared most companies into wishing everyone a “happy holiday” rather than a “merry Christmas” for fear of offending a tiny minority of people.

A lot of the rhetoric has to do with Dec. 25 being Christ’s birthday, and that Christmas trees have always been Christmas trees, with no need to label them as “holiday trees.”

That is laughable garbage. Are there no Christians reading history books? Yule logs and the decoration of trees were pagan traditions long before Jesus’ time. Spreading through Europe, Christian missionaries discovered they couldn't force Celts to abandon long held traditions. There is absolutely nothing Christian about a Christmas tree. Jesus H. Christ himself would not have known what a Christmas tree was.

The date, Dec. 25, has similar problems. The dominant cult in Roman lands prior to the rise of Christianity was the worship of Mithras, a deity thought to have been born on Dec. 25. Are Christians too dumb to make the connection? Are they too afraid of having their faith shaken by such a coincidence?

Now, in 2005 (and where is Nietzsche when we need him; “Almost 2000 years and no new god.”), Christians in the good ole’ US of A are indignant that somebody is trying to steal “their” date of Dec. 25, and take away “their” precious Christmas tree?

This is Class A idiocy. These are mindless, brainwashed fools. Have your Christmas tree, Christians, and try not to stampede each other at Walmart. Just be quiet about it, please.
