More outlandish governments in California

Remember the City of Bell, California? Definitely not an isolated incident. This is business as usual in our governments.

Hermosa Beach
1.3 sq. miles; population 19,506

This tiny town SW of Los Angeles -- not far from me -- has ten meter maids, with the top two "earning" $93k and $92k per year. The other eight get $67k to $84k. These figures don't include generous pension benefits. The Orange County Register has the details, and make sure to read the qualifications for this type of work.

Poway
39.3 sq. miles; population 47,811

This suburb of San Diego really takes the cake. If the media are reporting the numbers correctly, your eyes are going to pop out of your head and roll away on the floor, like they are for Poway residents. The city is borrowing $105 million now, and will have to repay $1 billion later. Voice of San Diego has the story.
