Tea Party's role

I have been worried that the Tea Party could have a Ross Perot effect tomorrow, and in the more distant future. Somebody I work with occasionally says he thinks they'll act as a check on Rinos. Though I'm not a Tea Party member, nor of any political party, I hope the mostly Libertarian Tea Party becomes a gatekeeper. I'm much more interested in fiscal responsibility -- balanced budgets -- than anything dear to the far right, because America needs a lean, simple federal government that doesn't overspend. It doesn't need any far right nonsense.

Either way, I'll feel we've made a big step forward if the Tea Party people throw out the GOP garbage.

I'd be more fearful of the good and decent parts of the GOP being replaced by Tea Party garbage to be honest.
Seriously, some of these people are veritable loons, no matter whether their opinions on fiscal policy are sound.

A lot of them are loons, but there are many loons among the Libertarians and the GOP and Dems. Dennis Kucinich, a Democrat, is the weirdest person in American politics. He's insane.

I really don't care how nutty people are, as long as they're maintaining a budget surplus and paying down the national debt. Any elected official who proves himself to be too insane will be tossed out of office quickly enough.
