For what it's worth, here are my thoughts on the election:
1) Righties and Libertarians are feeling pretty good, now that there is a check on the communism in Washington. But don't get too excited, because Republicans like to spend money they don't have almost as much as Democrats. They've done it again and again for decades. Think they'll stop now, and suddenly do the right thing? We'll see if the Tea Party can whip the right wing into shape. I'm not holding my breath.
2) Obama's reaction to the loss was laughable. He said people are unhappy if they think tax money is being wasted. He's hiding from the truth; he knows this is not the concern of the electorate. Deficit spending is the major problem with government, and Obama broke all the records for spending in one single year. Obama's deficit for his first year in office was $1,000,000,000,000, and the deficit in his second year -- not quite finished yet -- is just over $1,000,000,000,000. This is why Dems lost power this week.
3) Now that it will be almost impossible to pass another stimulus plan (GOP love for pork can't be underestimated, though) in Congress, Obama is instructing the fed to print money like never before. The song for Q4 won't be "Here comes Santa Clause", it will be "Here comes quantitative easing, right down Santa Clause Lane". Santa Clause Lane is looking a lot like your colon. It may be a good Christmas this year, but our grandchildren will be getting coal, if it isn't outlawed by the left. Maybe broken solar panels?
4) My elation at Nancy Pelosi's demise was tempered by Harry Reid's re-election. California was a huge disappointment, too, with the election of Moonbeam Brown to governor and Barbara Boxer's re-election. What the hell happened in the West? Did the Rocky Mountains stop the winds of change blowing out of the East? Why is it that the state with the best weather has the worst politics? Here in sunny CA the voters rejected nearly every proposition that would have raised taxes or fees, yet voted mostly Democrat. You know the saying from right wing radio: "A taxpayer voting for a Democrat is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders."
5) Maybe now that Obama's power is diminished, we can change his number one priority for NASA -- outreach to the Muslim world. We can get back to developing the world's most advanced technologies and exploring new worlds.
6) My greatest wish for the next two years, and beyond, is total gridlock in Washington. Because we cannot trust our government to moderate spending or stay out of our lives or cease social engineering, regardless of the party in power, gridlock would mean government can't do anything. And when our government can't do anything, it can't do anything bad.
