8th century critique of 21st century engineering

Reuters says the Arab League is calling on the U.S. and other Western powers to force Israel to stop an archaeological dig near the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Muslims have been rioting in recent weeks (surprising, no?).

Muslims are certain the excavation will damage the mosque. Most also believe Israelis took time out from drinking the blood of Arab babies to commit the 9/11 atrocity.

Contrary to popular belief on the Arab Street, the world is not out to get Muslims. There is, however, a preponderance of evidence for the opposite scenario.

The excavations around the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, which Israel says aim to salvage artifacts before construction of a pedestrian bridge leading to the complex also sacred to Jews, have angered Muslims who fear the work can damage the foundations of the 1,400-year-old mosque.

Israel says the holy places would not be harmed.

The league described the Israeli dig as criminal, and said a violation of the mosque was a violation of every Muslim's creed. The league also called on the Arab bloc at the United Nations to call for an emergency session of the Security Council to put a stop to the dig.
