Katrina: lessons learned, confirmed

A “gansta rap” subculture that glorifies killing police officers, beating women, and doing time in prison will kill, rape and steal in the absence of the rule of law.

A Category 4 hurricane will destroy levees designed to withstand Category 3 hurricanes.

When a mayor orders a city-wide evacuation, he’s not kidding.

Cities bordering the ocean and with sizable rivers running through them should be built above the water level or should not built at all.

People will forget why the United States of America is called “United States”, and choose to believe the federal government can rush federal assets into a state without being invited by the state.

Poor people are animals.

It’s not possible to airlift, feed, clothe, and provide medical care to more than 200,000 people overnight in a ruined, flooded region.

Some will blame politicians for causing natural disasters.

Anyone who takes the top job at FEMA and DHS is a fool: if nothing bad happens, they won’t get the credit; if something bad happens, they’ll be blamed.

The American taxpayer will always be expected to bail out those who choose to live in dangerous places.

Blacks will always blame whitey for their troubles.

A major catastrophe compels some to say, “It’s the hand of God,” and others, “There is no god.”

Geraldo Rivera will lose his objectivity in the thick of things.

Interesting post. Where do you stand in terms of political leaning, left, right, center, or somewhere in between?

Just askin' out of curiosity. I found this post interesting but I'll admit I'm due left of center.

I noticed this comment about two months late. Oops.

I consider myself a "practical libertarian", as opposed to the libertarians who want complete isolationism, completely sealed borders, or outright anarchy. You could say I'm a "sane libertarian."

The war on terror has caused me to ally with Bush and the Republicans. Liberals have done a bang-up job getting their ilk to believe the war is "Bush's war" or a "so-called war." 9/11 stands as contrast, proving to me we have a genuine enemy who deserves to get an ass-whoopin. It's do it here or do it there, and I'll take "there" every time.

Western Europe has suffered 35 major terrorist attacks since 9/11, and the USA has had ZERO. That is not a coincidence. Liberal (socialist) tolerance prevelant in Europe is directly responsible for the 35-0 scorecard. Not all cultures, and not all ideologies, are equal, despite what liberal-socialists long to believe. Islamic fundamentalism is every bit as deadly and diseased as the Nazis, and should be treated identically.

I stand behind the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and am ashamed of the UN for voting against the Iraq war. It's akin to failures in Guatemala, Cambodia, Rwanda, and many, many other places. It's downright disgusting and I want the U.S. to withdraw from the UN. We are better and have more authority than the UN. Put simply, the U.S. is too good for that garbage institution.

Bush is not the white knight many thought he was. He has failed on immigration and spending. Big time. If he doesn't fix both problems by the next presidential election, I'll probably give up on Republicans and go back to voting Libertarian.

No liberals. Sixty percent taxes (such as $10/gallon gas like in the UK) in exchange for free health care for people who choose not to educate themselves and find a good job that comes with health care -- can fuck off. Our present welfare system should be slashed by 80% immediately. Other bloated liberal ideas (which cost me money needlessly) must go, as well.
